Cabinet Considers Lowering Gas Reserve Target, 'But Every Heater Will Keep Running'
The Dutch cabinet is considering significantly lowering the gas storage target from 80 percent, according to Minister Van Veldhoven, who stated this can be done without households facing shortages this winter. On the TV program WNL op Zondag, Van Veldhoven explained that the European Commission has asked member states to reduce targets to prevent gas price increases. She mentioned that reaching the old target would require expensive foreign gas due to international issues like Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz. The new target may be 65 percent.
