Status of the Fireworks Ban

The Safe New Year's Eve Act, effective August 1, prohibits the sale and use of decorative fireworks (F2) by individuals, restricting them to associations and foundations with exemptions. The government allocated 100 million euros in compensation for the industry, funded partly by diverting funds from ProRail’s infrastructure budget and a climate fund. Despite these measures, a survey indicates that 10 to 28 percent of Dutch residents still plan to use fireworks illegally. The Ministry of Justice and Security is implementing a enforcement plan focused on communication, prevention, and anonymous collection campaigns, which have already gathered 4,000 kilograms of fireworks. Municipalities are required to grant exemptions for organized groups, while police maintain maximum readiness to address non-compliance.
