EU Imposes Sanctions Due to Deportation of Ukrainian Children
The EU has imposed sanctions on seventeen primarily Russian institutions and ten individuals, including Tatarstan President Roestam Minnichanov and the Donetsk sports minister, for their roles in the systematic deportation of Ukrainian children. These measures include asset freezes and travel bans, targeting entities accused of forcing russification through indoctrination in camps and centers across occupied territories. Since February 2022, over 20,500 Ukrainian children have been forcibly transferred, actions the EU describes as serious violations of international law aimed at erasing Ukrainian identity. The European Council stated it remains committed to increasing pressure on Russia through further sanctions.
