World Economy More Resilient to Iran War Than Expected

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reported on Wednesday that the global economy has weathered the war in Iran better than initially anticipated, thanks to increased use of alternative fuels like coal and the release of oil reserves. While these measures have limited immediate economic damage, the OECD warns that future outcomes depend heavily on the conflict's progression and negotiations between the US and Iran regarding Strait of Hormuz transit. The organization revised its annual growth forecast upward to 2.9 percent from 2.8 percent but cautioned against risks posed by the El Niño weather phenomenon, which threatens agricultural production and food prices. Additionally, while AI investments have partially offset weakness in the US economy, investor confidence in the value of AI companies is declining.
