Employees increasingly absent due to stress-related complaints

Employee absenteeism due to stress-related issues has risen by 12% over the past year and 49% over five years, according to data from ArboNed and HumanCapitalCare. This trend is driven by work pressure as well as private factors like financial problems, caregiving duties, and health issues. Redmer van Wijngaarden, medical director at ArboNed, notes that while most absences are short-term, stress-related cases result in significantly longer leave, averaging 257 days or 338 days for burnouts. He emphasizes that addressing this complex issue requires attention from employers, employees, and society to recognize early signals and prevent long-term absence.
