Half Marathon Helped Joy Beune Process Olympic Games: 'The Fire Still Burns'

Dutch speed skater Joy Beune struggled to resume training after a disappointing Olympic season in Milan, where she missed her favorite 1,500-meter event due to a qualification error. To cope with the mental strain and regain motivation, Beune participated in a half marathon in Groningen, finishing in 1 hour, 40 minutes, and 45 seconds. Although the intense effort brought her to tears, revealing unresolved disappointment, the activity helped her reconnect with her passion for skating. Unlike teammate Jutta Leerdam, who announced a sabbatical, Beune has no intention of taking time off and is preparing for the World Cup qualifier on October 30. Coach Martin ten Hove confirmed that Beune has fully recovered and returned to her previous form.
