Many Municipalities See No Use for Fireworks Exemptions: 'No Police Capacity'
Most Dutch municipalities will not grant exemptions for association fireworks during the upcoming New Year's Eve, citing insufficient preparation time and limited police capacity to enforce regulations. Out of 231 surveyed municipalities, 198 have already refused permission, while only 33 allow applications under strict safety conditions. This decision coincides with the first nationwide fireworks ban, which permits mayors to issue exemptions for existing associations. Key reasons for refusal include the short timeframe since the July cabinet decision, the strain on emergency services, and the desire to simplify enforcement.
