Sheep allowed to graze on dikes along the Wadden Sea again, except on Texel
In Noord-Holland, sheep may resume grazing on dikes along the Wadden Sea starting Monday after grass recovery was confirmed. The Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier imposed a temporary ban in early August due to drought damage, aiming to protect dike stability before the storm season begins on October 15. While mainland dikes have recovered sufficiently, grazing remains prohibited on Texel until April to allow further regrowth. Dijkgraaf Remco Bosma emphasized that water safety takes precedence, acknowledging the difficulty for tenants but praising their quick compliance during the summer drought. Similar restrictions were implemented in Friesland and Groningen earlier this year.
