375 Tons of 'Incorrect' Wood Seized Due to Suspected Illegal Logging
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) seized 375 tons of azobe wood from Gabon at a tropical hardwood importer, as the company could not prove legal harvesting. The NVWA’s special team searched business premises and a residence in the north of the Netherlands in May, detaining the owner who was later released. Authorities also confiscated administrative records, bank accounts, and properties to prevent illicit profits. Belgian customs intercepted two shipments in Antwerp that had been previously seized by Dutch authorities.
