Old School Building in Overvecht to Be Replaced by 40 Senior Apartments
The municipality of Utrecht plans to demolish the former school building at Scharlakendreef in the Overvecht district to construct five-story residential complex containing approximately forty senior housing units, mostly for social rent. The project also includes a new health center with a general practitioner practice and aims to make the neighborhood greener and more accessible. Alderman Julia Kleinrensink stated that keeping seniors in their own district is important for residents. Construction is expected to begin in 2029, pending municipal council approval and the selection of a housing corporation.
