Tens of Deaths from Severe Weather in India and Nepal
At least 70 people have died in India and Nepal over the past 48 hours due to heavy rainfall that caused rivers to overflow and triggered landslides. Uttar Pradesh in northern India was particularly affected, with 56 deaths recorded there and the remainder in Nepal, while 11 people remain missing and over 1,000 homes were destroyed. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities fear further sudden floods, and aid efforts have been hampered by blocked roads and closed routes. Additionally, ten Nepalese mountaineers went missing on Himlung Himal after being buried by an avalanche while setting up tents for tourists.
