Jack beans grown in Dutch greenhouses are being developed into a filter for the Neokidney, a mobile dialysis device designed to give kidney patients greater freedom. Unlike traditional hospital dialysis requiring extensive water and time, this portable unit uses less than five liters per session. InnoGrowers is cultivating these beans to extract proteins that bind waste products from blood. Although currently sourced from China, local production aims to scale up significantly to serve thousands of patients across Europe, with clinical trials underway and market availability expected by late 2027.
