Objectifying appears to truly calm autistic children
Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) found that asking autistic children to objectively describe sensory stimuli reduces brain activity in areas responding to touch and increases activity in emotion-regulation regions. Although participants reported the same irritation levels due to repeated exposure, functional MRI scans confirmed the neural calming effect of this cognitive reappraisal technique, known as the 'reporter game,' offering potential evidence for future treatments.
