PFAS Contamination in Dinxperlo Sewage After Fire Extinguishing with Polluted Water
Following a fire at a waste processing facility in Dinxperlo, Gelderland, PFAS-contaminated water from the Blauwe Meer lake was used for extinguishing and discharged into the sewage system. The municipality of Aalten confirmed that the contaminated water is being pumped out of the network for temporary storage because the water treatment plant cannot accept it. Residents are currently unaffected, but the municipality is investigating the severity of the pollution, with results expected early next week. The facility had been closed since November 2025 due to serious environmental violations, including illegal waste handling and mixing of waste streams. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
