Traffic Violations Increase Again, Significant Rise in Handheld Phone Use
Between May and August, traffic violations in the Netherlands rose compared to the same period last year, with notable increases in speeding, handheld phone use, and running red lights. The number of phone-related offenses surged by 56.2 percent, largely due to the deployment of automated focus cameras, while total violations under the WahV law reached 2.77 million. Police conducted 197,341 stops during this period, accounting for 7.1 percent of all fines issued.
