Libya's Critical Oil Pipeline Reopened After Armed Group Closure
Libya has reopened Pipeline 7, which connects the Sharara oil field to the port of Zawiyah, after it was shut down by the Petroleum Facilities Guard (PFG). The PFG, a paramilitary group under the Ministry of Defense, blocked the pipeline to demand higher salaries and better working conditions, citing unpaid wages and poor desert facilities. The closure caused an estimated $95 million loss in revenue and threatened electricity supplies. Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah resolved the dispute by equalizing PFG salaries with those of military personnel, though the group remains under the Defense Ministry rather than the National Oil Corporation (NOC). The NOC reports that crude oil flows are gradually returning to normal.
