Google Fined 403 Million Euros for Processing Location Data
Google has been fined 403 million euros by the European Union for violating rules regarding user location data processing. The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) initiated an investigation in 2020 following complaints from consumer organizations about how Google used location information for advertising and influencing user interests. Graham Doyle, deputy commissioner of the DPC, noted that users may have lost control over their personal data without being aware. This penalty represents the fourth-highest fine imposed by the Irish regulator on major US technology companies based in Ireland.
