German Developer Abandons Plans for Four Large Wind Turbines Near Winterswijk
Plans for four large wind turbines, each 250 to 267 meters high, near Ratum in the Dutch municipality of Winterswijk have been halted by German developer Stadtwerke Münster. The decision, announced on 2026-09-10, follows local opposition led by the Werkgroep Ratum-Kotten since 2023, citing concerns about the impact on the landscape and environment. Chair Karin Pierik credits their legal efforts and resistance. The municipality and province also opposed the project. Other wind projects in nearby German municipalities are still under consideration.
