EU allocates over 700 million euro emergency aid package for global crises
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Saturday in New York that the European Union has released an emergency aid package worth over 700 million euros to address global crises. Von der Leyen stated that conflicts and extreme weather are devastating lives worldwide, particularly displacing communities in Africa. Approximately 380 million euros will target migration issues in Sub-Saharan Africa by protecting vulnerable migrants and supporting reintegration. Additional funds include 10 million euros for peace initiatives in the Great Lakes region and 7.5 million euros for Ebola control in Congo. The EU also seeks approval to release 252 million euros from its crisis reserve for Africa, the Palestinian territories, Lebanon, and Ukraine, while Ethiopia receives 60 million euros to improve primary healthcare.
