The Public Prosec Service (OM) is implementing enforcement measures at the intersection of Halsterseweg and Randweg Noord in Halsteren after traffic counts revealed that approximately 120 vehicles run red lights daily. This dangerous behavior, observed among the 20,000 vehicles using the junction, poses a significant risk to cyclists, including many students. To improve safety following previous serious accidents, two speed cameras installed in July will begin issuing fines for speeding and running red lights starting Thursday. These cameras operate 24 hours a day to monitor compliance and protect the thousands of cyclists who traverse the busy crossing.
