New RIVM Building Requires Gas Generators, Move Delayed Again
The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) cannot yet move into its new Utrecht building, delivered in April 2026, due to the need for gas generators. Originally planned for 2018, the project faced delays from tram vibrations and security system issues, raising costs by €136 million by 2024. Overloaded power grids now require temporary gas generators, despite the building’s sustainable design. Additional obstacles include updated regulations and new lab equipment. The move will not occur in 2026, with no clear start date.
