Herman Brood 'Paid' for His Train Ride with a Tattoo on Lisanne's Arm
In 1999, conductor Jack Smeekens allowed musician Herman Brood to travel without a ticket in exchange for drawings. One sketch, depicting Brood with a parrot, was later tattooed onto Smeekens' daughter Lisanne's arm. The tattoo preserves the unique artwork created when Brood refused to pay a fine, serving as a lasting tribute to the artist and her father's encounter.
