Near 30 Degrees in Autumn: Is the Indian Summer Here to Stay?
Meteorologist Floris Lafeber of Weerplaza reports that temperatures near 28 degrees Celsius are expected in southern Netherlands next week, marking an exceptionally warm late September. While such heat is rare historically, with only five summer days recorded since 2000 in this period, it results from high pressure over Eastern Europe driving warm air from Spain and Southern France. However, Lafeber notes that total summer days in September remain low compared to previous years. The warmth also causes record-low water levels in major rivers like the Rhine due to lack of rain in source regions, disrupting shipping. A weather front arriving Wednesday or Thursday will likely end the heat with thunderstorms, displacing the warm air.
