Budget memorandum: Poverty does not increase, billions to defense
The Dutch government states poverty levels will remain stable next year, contradicting earlier CPB forecasts. The budget allocates €600 million extra for defense, raising the 2027 budget to €28.9 billion, including support for Ukraine, aiming for NATO’s 2% GDP target with 5,000 new personnel. Justice and Security receives €231 million by 2027 for online safety and police, while €75 million addresses prison overcrowding. Infrastructure gets €1.5 billion for road maintenance, and education receives over €500 million annually to improve literacy and numeracy skills.
