NVWA: Squishy Dumplings Removed from Shelves Are Not Dangerous for Children
The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) concluded that popular Chinese 'squishy dumpling' toys are safe for children despite their strong smell resembling turpentine or gasoline. Laboratory tests on nineteen samples revealed that while volatile organic compounds cause the odor, their concentration in the foam rubber is too low to pose any health risk. Consequently, the authority determined that the initial removal of these products from retailers like Bol was unnecessary, as the substances evaporate quickly and do not endanger consumers even if left in bedrooms overnight.
