Rotterdam installs permanent fences on Coolsingel to curb jaywalking
The municipality of Rotterdam is installing permanent fences along the Coolsingel to prevent pedestrians from crossing dangerously between two designated zebra crossings. This decision, made in May 2025, follows years of unsafe jaywalking incidents, particularly during busy periods like Christmas. Officials determined that adding a third crossing was unfeasible due to tram tracks and insufficient space for additional traffic lights.
