RIVM: Many people have too much PFAS in blood, but there is cautious positive news

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported that nearly every Dutch resident had PFAS in their blood in 2025, with approximately 71 percent exceeding health-based limit values. This represents a decrease from previous studies where almost everyone was above the threshold, leading the RIVM to describe the findings as cautiously positive news. The decline is attributed to bans on specific harmful substances like PFOS and PFOA. However, experts note that environmental levels remain high, and residents in Zeeland Flanders showed significantly higher concentrations due to industrial discharge into the Western Scheldt.
