Intelligence Services Lack Sufficient Control Over AI Usage
The Dutch intelligence services AIVD and MIVD are increasingly using artificial intelligence (AI) and automated data analysis systems to process large volumes of information, but the Supervisory Committee on Intelligence and Security Services (CTIVD) warns that there is currently no guarantee these tools are used safely or responsibly. CTIVD Chairman Hugo Hillenaar emphasized the need to balance national security with fundamental rights, noting that clear frameworks are missing, such as a central point for managing AI development. The committee plans to discuss these gaps with the services to establish necessary measures and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.
