Sixty Parties Interested in Restarting Bicycle Manufacturer Accell
Sixty parties have submitted bids to restart Accell, the bankrupt bicycle manufacturer behind brands such as Batavus, Sparta, Babboe, and Raleigh. Out of 300 approached companies, these sixty expressed interest in acquiring individual or groups of brands. Accell filed for insolvency in August due to financial struggles stemming from the pandemic, unsold inventory, and a major safety recall of Babboe cargo bikes in 2024. Approximately 434 creditors have claimed €38.4 million in debts, though the total debt amount remains unknown. Curators are negotiating with major creditors to facilitate a successful restart for the company, which employs around 2,000 people across fifteen countries. Additionally, the claim foundation Veilige Bakfiets is accelerating legal action to secure compensation for tens of thousands of affected cargo bike owners before assets are depleted.
