Low-income families to pay more for childcare under new system
Under a new childcare system starting in 2029, low-income families will pay slightly more than currently, as the government replaces income-based reimbursement tiers with a uniform 95.6 percent rate. This change results in an estimated annual increase of over twenty euros for families with two children attending care two days a week. The Ministry of Social Affairs has submitted the legislation to the Council of State for advice, aiming to have the state pay providers directly to prevent unexpected repayment demands on parents. While subsidies rise significantly for middle and high incomes to encourage employment, the plans remain subject to parliamentary debate and budget approval.
