Large International Study Finds Link Between Screen Time and Mental Health Issues in Children

A study published in JAMA Pediatrics analyzing data from nearly 3 million children across 64 countries found a correlation between high screen usage and poorer school performance, language development delays, and emotional problems such as anxiety and aggression. Researchers from the University of Calgary reviewed 23 previous studies but cautioned that the link does not prove causation, as children with existing issues may also spend more time on screens. Experts Esther van Sluijs and Tatiana Íñiguez Berrozpe noted the study's quality while warning against definitive conclusions about specific activities like gaming, whereas Betsy van de Grift highlighted risks of developmental disturbances in young children.
