Young Filmmaker Christiaan Debuts at NFF with Film About Young Caregivers
At the 46th edition of the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht, 27-year-old filmmaker Christiaan Meijning makes his debut with the short film 'Jongens van karton' (Boys of Cardboard). The film follows ten-year-old Joran, who balances playing football with caring for his sick mother, highlighting the reality of over 500,000 young caregivers in the Netherlands. Meijning, who became a caregiver for his own mother at age seven, draws on personal experience to portray both the stress and value of such responsibilities. The film is nominated for the Shalky Screenplay Award and will be screened during the 'Blikvangers x NFF' event.
