'Mercy Shot' for Hit Wolf Triggers Questions
The Werkgroep Wolf Leusden foundation questions whether a wolf hit in Leusden on September 22, 2025, suffered unnecessarily after a Valwild volunteer shot it. The group argues that the Dutch Wildlife Health Centre was not consulted and that Belgian veterinarian Stef Michels found the euthanasia method incorrect. Although the Provincial Executive (ODU) rejected the complaint citing pressure and lack of time, the advisory committee will provide advice to the Provincial Executive within two to three weeks.
