Government introduces new form of border control at internal borders
Starting October 1, the Netherlands will replace temporary internal border checks with an expanded framework for Mobile Security Control (MTV), as announced by Asylum and Migration Minister Van den Brink. This permanent system grants the Royal Marechaussee greater flexibility to conduct information-based and risk-driven controls against illegal migration and cross-border crime, including human smuggling. The new rules allow inspections across a broader area near Belgium and Germany, with adjusted limits for vehicles and trains to accommodate future passenger growth. While maintaining the same capacity, the MTV aims to disrupt smuggling networks through unpredictable timing while minimizing disruption to regular traffic and residents.
