Large Portion of Writers See No Income from Books on Audio Platforms
A study published on 2026-09-15 reveals that about 42% of Dutch writers and translators receive no payment from their publishers for audiobooks offered on commercial streaming platforms. Of nearly 700 authors surveyed by the Authors' Union and Lira Foundation, many who do get paid report very low amounts, often under €0.10 per borrowed title. The income structure is described as opaque, with unclear royalty statements and little transparency from platforms like Fluister and Kobo+.
