Why This US Highway Displays Kilometers Instead of Miles
Interstate 19 in Arizona uniquely displays distances in kilometers rather than miles, a remnant of the 1975 Metric Conversion Act aimed at transitioning the US to the metric system. The highway near the Mexican border was selected as an experiment due to its isolation and proximity to a region where kilometers are standard.
