Men Arrested for Fraudulently Claiming 160,000 Euros in Prisoner Benefits
Two men, aged 45 and 48, were arrested by the Dutch Labour Inspection Service for fraudulently obtaining approximately 160,000 euros in benefits using forged release certificates. The suspects manipulated dates on documents to trick the UWV into paying missed benefits to inmates who were still incarcerated. The fraud began while one suspect was imprisoned and continued after his release, involving assistance to other prisoners. The UWV is recovering the funds and has established an analysis team to detect similar schemes, citing privacy laws that prevent automatic notification when prisoners are released.
