Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Nigerian Billionaire Lay New Oil Pipeline
Ethiopia and Djibouti are partnering with Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote to construct a $660 million oil pipeline and storage facility connecting Damerjog port in Djibouti to Dewele in Ethiopia. The 120-kilometer pipeline aims to reduce fuel transport time from five days to one day and will include approximately 400 million liters of storage capacity expected to be operational within eighteen months. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated the project enhances energy security for landlocked Ethiopia, while Dangote noted it strengthens supply chain resilience. The initiative supports key sectors like aviation and agriculture and is expected to boost Djibouti’s economy through increased port activity and employment.
