Prominent Turkish Comedian Deniz Göktas Released but Convicted for Insulting the President

Turkish comedian Deniz Göktas was released from custody after serving 88 days, following his arrest in July upon returning from vacation. He was convicted by a court for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and religious values, receiving sentences of eleven months and twenty days, and seven months and fifteen days respectively. The prosecution had sought up to nine years and eight months for comments made in his show Ölü Deniz, where he described Erdogan as an authoritarian leader.
