Discovery of the Century: Bolivian Biologist Discovers New Cat Species
Bolivian biologist Paola Nogales-Ascarrunz discovered a new cat species, Leopardus tilcayo, in the jungle near La Paz. Published in Current Biology, the finding marks the first new feline species described in over a century. Genetic analysis revealed that South American tiger cats comprise at least five distinct species, including a new subspecies, Leopardus tigrinus antisuyo.
