Over 650 Trees to Be Removed for New Sports Park, Complex Now 5 Million Euros More Expensive
The municipality of Delft plans to remove 652 trees to make way for a new sports park for the Blue Birds baseball and softball club at Thijsseweg. The estimated investment has risen from 4.6 million to 9.6 million euros due to higher construction costs and additional expenses for new planting. The current site will be redeveloped for hockey club Hudito and student housing. The council must approve the budget on November 12, with tree removal scheduled for December 2026 if permits are granted. The project aims to plant 361 new trees within the area and contribute to a tree fund for the remaining ones, with completion expected by April 2028.
