Public Transport Inspectors Gain Access to Driver’s License Register to Issue Fines More Often
Starting October 1, public transport inspectors (BOAs) in the Netherlands will have access to the driver’s license register, allowing them to independently verify identities and issue fines even when individuals lack physical ID documents. This measure aims to reduce reliance on police assistance, which currently causes delays and safety risks, as 42 percent of BOAs encounter situations where they cannot confirm identity themselves. Staatssecretaris Annet Bertram stated this access is a significant step forward for social safety in public transport, with plans to explore access to other registers under the coalition agreement.
