Kylian Mbappé revealed in an interview with The Athletic that his mother, Fayza Lamari, strongly advocated for a transfer to Liverpool in 2016, visiting Anfield and convincing herself of the club's family atmosphere. Although Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool pursued the deal, Mbappé chose PSG because he was born and raised in Paris, aiming to become a star in his home city before moving abroad. He joined PSG on loan from AS Monaco in 2017 before a permanent move for €180 million, scoring 256 goals in 308 appearances.
