Fugitive Dutch Arms Dealer Guus Kouwenhoven (84) Dies
Fugitive Dutch businessman Guus Kouwenhoven, convicted of complicity in war crimes in Liberia, has died at age 84, according to Liberian media citing a family statement. In 2017, the Den Bosch court sentenced him in absentia to 19 years for illegal arms trading and war crimes in Liberia and Guinea. Kouwenhoven supplied weapons to Liberian dictator Charles Taylor in 2000-2001, violating UN embargoes. Arrested in Cape Town in 2017, extradition failed. He always maintained his innocence. The case spanned decades.
