F-16 Jet Crashes at US Base in Germany, Pilot Ejects
An F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed around 14:30 near Spangdahlem Air Base in the German Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm. The pilot ejected and sustained minor injuries, while the aircraft was completely destroyed. Local Mayor Birthe Thomsen witnessed the jet descending rapidly before a large black smoke plume rose. Authorities state the crash occurred after a training exercise involving four aircraft; two were returning to Spangdahlem, with the first crashing, while the other three diverted to Ramstein Air Base. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
