Advisory Body SER Calls for Better Employment Support for Newcomers
The Social-Economic Council (SER) advised on Wednesday that newcomers must be helped into work more quickly, noting that both migrants and sectors with labor shortages would benefit from improved agreements. Currently, only 57 percent of status holders have paid employment eight years after receiving status, often due to long waiting times and fragmented support. The SER recommends that municipalities take greater responsibility for guiding status holders into jobs, that industries with staff shortages contribute financially to training, and that existing work guidance agreements be better developed through cooperation between employers, unions, and the government.
