Court Reverses Double Surname Decision: Child Retains Father's Name Only
The District Court of The Hague ruled that parents cannot add a combined surname to their child's birth record more than two months after birth, reversing a municipal registration made in error. Although the parents argued they were misled about the deadline due to the mother's C-section recovery, the court emphasized that name law is mandatory, requiring choices for double surnames to be made before or at birth.
