Households Can Apply for Help with High Energy Bills After New Year
Starting January 4, low-income households can apply for financial assistance from the Energy Emergency Fund to offset high energy costs. The Dutch government expects this measure to help half a million households by providing between 120 and 1,800 euros annually, credited directly to their energy supplier. Applications are delayed until January 4 to account for expected tariff increases in early 2027, ensuring recipients receive adequate support. Minister Hans Vijlbrief stated the goal is to assist all eligible households during the winter. The cabinet has allocated 194 million euros for the fund, aiming to prevent the funding shortages seen in previous years. Eligible individuals must earn up to 130 percent of the social minimum.
