Trapped Between the Dnipro and Russians: Humanitarian Disaster in Occupied Olesky

Residents of the occupied Ukrainian town of Olesky face a severe humanitarian crisis, having received no food or medicine since May 26. Military administrator Tetjana Hasanenko confirmed that starvation has become so extreme that some families are forced to eat dogs and grass soup. The approximately 6,000 remaining inhabitants are trapped between the Dnipro River and Russian forces, with escape routes blocked by mines and drone attacks. Attempts to deliver aid have resulted in fatalities, including two men killed by drones while transporting groceries. The United Nations reported at least 29 civilian deaths in the area this year due to such attacks, as the Russian occupation authority maintains a tight blockade on the devastated settlement.
