Spitting, Swearing and Sometimes Blows, but Quick Veterans Refuse to Give Up
Amateur football in The Hague can be relaxing but also a source of irritation, insults, and violence. Some teams have started their own leagues to avoid aggression, but most Quick veterans persist in the regular competition, despite incidents in about 70% of away games. Captain Freek van Duuren notes, “It’s sometimes a real challenge.” After a spitting incident last season, some players quit, but most remain, believing in dialogue and the 'Haagse Norm' agreement. Van Duuren warns that continued dropouts threaten the team’s future.
